Texas Independence Day - 2010

On March 2, 1836, the Texian delegates, assembled at Washington-on-the-Brazos, had been pushed far enough. The Mexican government had refused to listen to the concerns of the Texans about their abrogation of the Constitution. More than that, in response to their protestations they threw Stephen F. Austin in prison and proceeded with a military invasion of Texas. While the Alamo siege was raging and the fate of Goliad was yet to be determined, the delegates were still facing the same question that had been debated for months in Texas - seek independence from Mexico or the reimplementation of the Mexican Constitution of 1824.

The parallels to the situation that we face today are obvious. We are faced with a government, not in Mexico City but in Washington, that is refusing to listen to the concerns of Texas. Although we are not under a military siege, we are under siege by an army of bureaucrats and laws that are so far removed from the Constitution as to diminish its effect to nil.  Our protestations are met with more un-Constitutional laws, more bureaucracy, more taxes and contempt. We are looking at 1836 - The Sequel.

Under very similar circumstances to ours, the forty-one delegates convened at Washington-on-the-Brazos unanimously approved these words as an expression of their frustration and desire for a better life:
